What’s the most surprising thing you learned about cars after owning one?

One thing that really surprised me after owning a car was how much regular maintenance actually matters more than brand or model. Before owning a car, I used to think reliability was mostly about the manufacturer, but after a few years, I realized it really comes down to how well the car is maintained and how you drive it.

For example, simple things like timely oil changes, using decent quality parts, and not ignoring small noises can make a huge difference in long-term performance. I’ve seen people ruin good cars just because they delayed basic maintenance. On the other hand, I’ve seen well-maintained Japanese Stock Cars run smoothly for years with very few issues.

Another thing I learned is that finding the right parts and understanding your car model helps a lot. I was confused about this in the beginning, but I found some helpful guides on sites like Nobuko Japan that explain things in a simple way, especially for Japanese models.

Curious to hear from others here. What’s the most surprising thing you learned after owning a car?
